If your kid is up to 3 years of age we recommend choosing a kit from either the 'up to 3 years' section here:

If the kit is for someone up to 8 years of age then you're best getting a kit from the 'up to 8 years' or 'up to 12 years' section:

If your drummer is in the age range 8 to 12 years then it is definitely worth considering going for a full size drum kit. PlayRecord highly recommends full size kits for anyone who is thinking of having formal tuition. This is not just purely due to the size but because they are manufactured to withstand the regular practicing and gigging of the average drummer.

If you are looking at a full size kit and your budget can stretch to it we also recommend going for one of the established brand names such as Pearl Tama Ludwig and Premier :
