The single-headed toms and bass drum are based around ultra-shallow wooden shells which colour their sound and add volume. 'Flats' use exactly the same single-screw tuning system as their 'AT' brothers and are designed to be transported together in a single unit; therefore carrying them setting them up and tearing them down becomes an absolute breeze. With their single-heads 'Flats' are absolutely ideal for unplugged or low volume musical situations although with the judicious addition of microphones they will adequately cope in the most demanding of musical environments. On the other hand because of their shallow footprint they're perfects for gigs where space is at a premium.
