The E400 is the first portable electronic kit to feet like a regular drum kit. Unlike other electronic drums you get a standard sized set of drums 13" snare, 10" tom, 12" tom, 14" tom and 20" kick drum. These are fitted with acoustic heads and Traps triggers for near silent performance. So when used with the supplied headphones you can turn the volume right up and practice to your hearts content without upsetting the neighbors and/or your parents. Or alternatively plug the output into a PA and blow the crowd away at your next gig.

The drums are constructed from a very high quality and durable ABS and are fitted with acoustic heads, steel counter hoops and are tuned with the traditional multi screw tuning system. Of course because the drums are standard sizes it is also possible to fit standard heads and cymbals (not supplied) to convert the E400 into an acoustic kit.

The electronic cymbals are also molded from the same high quality ABS with an internal trigger and rubber pad to damp out stick noise. The hi hat consists of one of these cymbals plus a switch triggered via a standard foot pedal so that it functions in the same way as an acoustic hi hat.

The Traps E400 rack system that the drums and hardware fit to is made from substantial steel tubing which means that everything stays exactly where it's put when the kit is set up and doesn't move.

20" Kick Drum -The E400 20" kick drum is an uncompromising double headed design fitted with an acoustic head on the back and acoustic drumhead on the front printed with the Traps logo. It is also fitted with chrome plated steel hoops. The shell is made from a robust high quality injection molded ABS fitted with custom dual mounting points ideally suited to mounting in the E400 rack mount system. A strong metal plate is fitted to bottom of the rear counter hoop so that when the kick pedal is fitted the beater strikes the head at the optimum position - top of the upstroke.

The E400 rack mounting system is made from sturdy large diameter steel tubing finished in black satin. The kit can easily be set up for either left or right handed players using the supplied tough ABS multifunctional joints. When set up the rack is very strong and once fitted with the supplied four large rubber feet stays where it's placed and doesn't move. This provides a noticeable improvement in playability compared to other portable drum sets in this price bracket. The rack is also supplied with cable clips which allow the cables to be routed neatly to the drum triggers from the E400 brain.

The E400 12 snare drum has a great feel as a result of the high quality ABS molding combined with the chrome plated steel counter hoops, acoustic heads and 8 square headed tension screws. Fitted with a Traps trigger and dual mesh heads this drum is very responsive even distinguishing between standard snare hits and rim shots.

The E400 10", 12" and 14" toms are manufactured from tough ABS bespoke moldings which are further strengthened by triple flange counter hoops, then to complete each of the toms they are fitted with top quality acoustic heads. As with all the E400 drums an industry standard multi screw tuning system is used. Each torn is fitted with a mesh head and Traps trigger.

The standard E400 kit uses 9 (5 drum triggers, 3 cymbal triggers and hi hat switch) of the available 10 trigger inputs. The "add on" trigger input can be used by purchasing an additional tom and trigger from your local retailer. They are molded form the same tough ABS as the drums arid cymbals. The beautifully molded electronic cymbal included in the E400 kit is molded from ABS with an inset rubber pad to keep stick noise to a minimum. Each cymbal has a built in trigger. The hi hat also has a switch which mounts on the standard hi hat pedal stand to allow hi hat open, closed and closing sounds.

The heart of the E400 electronic drum kit is the E408 drum module, also known as the "brain" in electronic drummer terms. This contains 8 different drum sets plus 4 variations of each set. There are 10 trigger inputs, an audio input, midi output, line output and headphone output. The module contains 8Mb of l6bit, 44.1kHz samples which are organized into 8 separate drum kits (E400, Rock, Jazz, Effects, Doom, Techno, Ethno, Orchestral) each with 4 variations plus there are also 7 internal loops to play along to. All easily selectable via the front panel buttons. The E408 has a headphone out for use with the supplied headphones to allow for near silent practicing and a line input for attaching a CD player (not supplied) for practicing along to your favorite tracks. There is also a PA out which allows the E408 to be attached to external amplification. It is also possible to drive external sound modules/samplers via the midi output.
