Festival. That's the word of the month at PlayRecord Towers. We've been partying hard and enjoying some of the best new music at some great local music festivals.
Just last weekend saw the premier of the PlayRecord.Net festival stall where there were some awesome festival only bargains to be had - as well as the site of PlayRecord staff lounging around in the sun enjoying a nice can of luke warm cider :-) The Moor Music Festival was right on our doorstep so we thought it would be rude not to be present!! Well I can assure you we didn't regret it one bit as we were blessed with some of the nicest weather so far this year along with some truly superb local musical talent and an eclectic mixture of musical styles that ensured even the sometimes highly musically critical PlayRecord staff were suitably impressed. There is something really special about the sounds you get when you take a ridiculously large PA rig and set it up in a field. This festival was a real example of how great that sound could be thanks to the superb work of Purple Pro Audio with their trademark purple cabs dominating the sides and front of the stages. For some people though the festivals are a bit too much... Mud, rain and lots of smelly festival goers only barely outdone by the quintessentially pungent festival toilets. Even Ozzy can only take so much. To the dismay of many he has decided to decline the headline slot at the Ozz Fest - a position he has enjoyed for the past nine years. Apparently recurrent throat problems have forced the issue. Whatever you are doing though - have a great bank holiday from everyone at PlayRecord.Net Remember: We are more than happy to answer any questions or queries - no matter how simple, just e-mail customerservices@playrecord.net for a fast and friendly response. |

"This list has been a massive undertaking and considering which films have had a greater cultural impact than Bowie, for example, has fuelled many discussions." Said Uncut editor Allan Jones. "What we have been left with is Dylan as the most seminal artistic statement of the last five decades - but I'm sure others will disagree." In second place was Elvis Presley You can see the full list on Rocklist.Net. Courtney Love is most famously the widow of the late Nirvana Courtney was also quite concerned about the impact on her credibility of being associated with Coogan as she confided with a friend "Tell me honestly...what does it make me look like that I slept with Alan Partridge?" "Given the grade A stars I've dated it's embarrassing. I mean...Alan Partridge!" back to topGoogle's New Instant MessengerGoogle have broadened their repertoire again with the release of their new instant messaging client.Instant messaging is a text based online communication method - a bit like email. It is summed up on Wikipedia as the use of a client program that hooks up an instant messaging service and differs from e-mail in that conversations are then able to happen in realtime. Instant messaging has been around for a long time now and there are some very well established programs out their - most notably from Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL. The Windows Messenger is bundled with every copy of XP which automatically guarantees that a lot of people are using it. Now Google is getting in on the act and has released the beta version of its new instant messaging program Google Talk However, unlike the quite revolutionary Gmail which brought gigabyte sized email storage to the online email arena and boasts a powerful and intuitive interface with the added benefit of Google style search of all your emails, Google's instant messaging client seems to be pretty much bog standard with nothing to get particularly excited about. The big difficulty that Google Talk faces is the closed nature of instant messaging at the moment. Basically if you use Microsoft's messenger program, you can only chat to people who are also using the Microsoft program. There is no way for you to chat to people using the Yahoo messenger, for example, from Microsoft's program. In essence this means that if you want to be able to chat to absolutely everybody, then you need to have every single messaging program installed and running on your computer. Put another way, you are only going to be able to use Google Talk if your friends are also using Google Talk. If you don't know anyone that is using it then you are going to be a pretty lonely instant messager!! It will be interesting to see what happens, but PlayRecord.Net thinks this might end up being a bit of a let down. More interesting maybe is this - sharing the same name as Google Talk, it could be an interesting and useful lyrical inspiration tool. Google Talk |
back to topTop of the Pops Walk Out"What do you get when you put two brothers and two sisters in a band? A big fat melting pot of talent"The Magic Numbers Scheduled to play on Top of the Pops they decided to decline the opportunity after they heard presenter Richard Bacon's introduction to their slot. "We were really excited about appearing on 'Top Of The Pops', it's a kind of a dream for us. And we got up there and there was no way we could have played the song after that and it all sort of hit us as a big shock and we just thought it was out of order. The sound of The Magic Numbers revolves around the song writing and guitar playing talents of singer Romeo. Born and raised in Trinidad (where his mother had her own opera show on TV) the family moved to New York when he was teenager and later moved again to Ealing in London. There he met drummer Sean and started making music. To complete the core band line-up they added Romeo's sister Michele on bass and vocals, while Sean's sister Angela takes care of percussion, melodica and third vocals. "So we apologise to anyone who was looking forward to seeing us. I mean, we told quite a lot of people that we were on and we got loads of calls saying 'Hey I thought you were going to be on'. And we said well, y'know..." Richard Bacon is yet to apologise for his choice of vocabulary. The Magic Numbers |
